Tall(ish) for a woman (5'7"), curvy. Can get tired easily. Personality: Sweet, compassionate. Likes to take care of people. Hopeful, honest but not blunt, has a sense of humor that she tries to hard to hide because it doesn't seem proper. History/Family/Any Additional Information: The Blackwoods were one of the first families in Corvallis. Henry and Agnes quickly set up shop, establishing a boarding house (simple called "The Blackwood") for all those people they knew would would be coming after them. They had three children -- Peter, Elizabeth and Franklin -- and all seemed to be going well. The children helped out at the house and while Peter and Elizabeth indicated that they wanted to continue in the business, Franklin had a more adventurous spirit and headed off to find his fortune. Tragedy struck years later in the form of a fever that affected most members of the family and swept through the boarding house. Elizabeth had the mildest case and spent her time nursing her parents and elder brother, as well as some of the older boarding house residents. Sadly, her mother didn't survive and the fever had a lasting effect on her father. Peter and his wife, Mariette, took over the day-to-day running of the boarding house although it's not always gone smoothly; Peter and Mariette often fight over Elizabeth's place at the house. Peter thinks she has every right to be there and continue to act as the main female presence (especially since that's his father's wish) while Mariette thinks she should take over. Elizabeth tries to avoid conflict with her sister-in-law but they often butt heads over what seem to be petty issues. Mariette wants to make the boarding house more flashy at a greater cost while Elizabeth thinks their customers prefer a more homey atmosphere. It also rankles Mariette that Henry has made no secret of the fact that when he dies, the boarding house will go to all his heirs, not just Peter. While Peter and Mariette have their own house in town, Elizabeth lives in a small suite of rooms at the back of the boarding house. She is the main cook for the house and, even though Mariette is in charge of the small staff, is often the one the younger girls come to for advice and a cup of tea. | ||||||||||
